Minimum Requirements for SANParks General Worker Vacancy

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the educational and practical experience requirements set by SANParks.

Candidates should have:

Grade 12 (Matric), NCV Level 4 or an equivalent qualification.
One to two years of practical work experience in a general worker role within a tourism or hospitality environment.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
Good organisational and time-management skills.
The ability to follow workplace instructions, policies and safety procedures.
Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays when required.

Additional Qualifications and Experience

Although not compulsory, the following will be advantageous:

A valid driver’s licence.
Experience operating chainsaws and brush cutters.
Basic First Aid knowledge.
A short course in landscaping.

Applicants with experience in cleaning, landscaping, general maintenance and maintaining hospitality facilities may be particularly well suited to the role.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for various general maintenance, cleaning and operational tasks at Augrabies Falls National Park.

Cleaning and Maintaining Facilities

The General Worker will help maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the rest camp.

Responsibilities include:

Cleaning public areas, offices, campsites and accommodation facilities.
Maintaining ablution facilities, chalets, huts and kitchens.
Collecting and disposing of refuse.
Keeping waste disposal areas clean and hygienic.
Assisting with the preparation of accommodation before visitors arrive and after they leave.

Grounds Maintenance

The successful applicant will also assist with keeping the park’s outdoor facilities neat and properly maintained.

Duties include:

Sweeping and cleaning walkways.
Removing litter and clearing unwanted vegetation.
Maintaining pathways and surrounding grounds.
Assisting with basic landscaping activities.
Supporting general maintenance and upkeep of visitor facilities.

General Maintenance and Operational Support

Other responsibilities include:

Assisting with painting and minor repairs.
Reporting damaged equipment, buildings and other infrastructure.
Loading and unloading supplies, equipment and operational materials.
Transporting linen and other materials between facilities.
Keeping work tools and equipment clean, safe and secure.
Supporting tourism staff during busy periods.
Assisting with stock handling and movement of supplies.
Performing relief duties at the filling station when required.
Assisting with emergency situations under the guidance of supervisors.
Carrying out other reasonable tasks assigned by the supervisor.

The successful candidate must follow SANParks safety procedures and provide professional assistance to visitors when needed.

Salary and Benefits

The advertised remuneration package for the SANParks General Worker position ranges from R127,497.16 to R170,600.60 per annum.

The position falls under the Paterson A3 job grade.

The remuneration package includes a basic salary determined according to the applicable salary scale, together with allowances and benefits provided under SANParks’ HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Service.
